Resting Time -Canoes at Lake O’hara- 14 X11

Resting Time -Canoes at Lake O’hara- 14 X11

This pianting was created at the Calgary Stampede Artist’s Studio Show in 2024. I spent 10 days there in a booth sharing my art and spending time with other artists. Always a great show.

This piece was inspired from a trip in 2016 up to the rare beaty of an area in our Canadian Rockies, Lake O’hara. iThese red canoes tied to the small dock were just so striking in that setting. I’m glad I captured a few photos during that trip as they don’t allow boats on that lake any longer. This piece is currently in the “Water” exhibition with the Federation of Canadian Artists in Vancouver. It’s available for purchase threw their website once the show is up and running later in October, 2024.

Good Company- Lake Ohara – 8 X 10

Good Company- Lake Ohara – 8 X 10

This piece was created while I was in the Calgary Stampede Artist Gallery Show for 10 days in July of 2024. It was created from a photo I had taken during a plein air opportunity at Lake Ohara a few years ago. Apparently they don’t allow boats on this lake anymore. So I’m super grateful I had this image to paint from. I loved the red canoe against the dark teal blue and the refections on the lake of the rock out cropping. This piece will be available from the Federation of Canadian Artist in Vancouver. It was juried into their water show that will run in November of 2024. Please contact me or the Gallery in Vancouver to purchase it.

Long Road Home – Redland, AB- 11 X 14

Long Road Home – Redland, AB- 11 X 14

This piece was created on the second day of painting at the annual Rosebud Plein Air event in Sept. I loved this farm site and wanted to painted for several years. It is so well kept and reminiscent of small family farms in days-gone-by, yet still operating. The interesting rolling hills behind the farm yard really adds an unique element. I painted this one from inside my car as it was pouring rain that afternoon. In between the wipers working and listening to some worship music, I stayed warm but did find it a challenge to paint in such close quarters.

The Heart of Ohara- Lake Ohara – 8 X 10

The Heart of Ohara- Lake Ohara – 8 X 10

This piece was created on the shores of Lake Ohara, during the Whyte Museums Plein Air event. We stayed right at this location, however not at these lovely private cabins but near by at the rugged, 100 year old guides huts. I found this a challenging scene to capture all that is there on such a small panel. I loved how the smoke began to show up coming from the old Lake Ohara Lodge. It’s really a out of this world environment and so hard to capture the essence of it all. From the teal coloured water to the grand mountains behind the lake side cabins, it’s all overwhelming and incredible.

Fleeting Morning Light – Cathedral Mountain, Lake Ohara, 10 X 8

Fleeting Morning Light – Cathedral Mountain, Lake Ohara, 10 X 8

This piece was started during our Lake Ohara plein air paint out, sponsored by the Whyte Museum of Banff.  We stayed for two nights in the 100 year old “guides” huts. This scene was right outside our door. I started it on location early in the morning on our second day, however the clouds rolled in and completely covered the mountain. So glad I had taken a photo when I set up. So it was completed at home in the studio. That little foot bridge was where we gathered buckets of water to boil on the stove for our drinking water. It’s rugged living and yet such an incredible opportunity!

Morning Memories- Lake Louise- 8 X10

This piece was created from a photo after an early April visit to Lake Louise for my mothers 86th Birthday. The early morning light as so incredible. One of my favourite places to paint in all the different seasons and times of day.

Whitefish Evening – Whitefish, Montana- 11 X 14

This piece was created on the first day of the Hock-A-Day Museums, Glacier National Park Plein Air event. We set up in this lovely location right in the town of Whitefish. Spent a tranquil few hours painting as the sun went down over the town, casting such gorgeous light and long shadows.

Rugged Mountains- Flathead River, Montana -8 X10

Rugged Mountains- Flathead River, Montana -8 X10

This piece was created on location during the Hock-A-Day Museums, Glacier National Park Plein Air event. We drove north from Columbia Falls along the great Flathead River. Eventually stopping at this location as it caught our breath. We painted along side a road, listening to the sounds of birds in the forest behind us and the steady sound of the river as it flowed over the rocks.

Pickets -Kalispell, Montana, 8 X10

This piece was created on the last day of the Hock-A-Day Museums, Glacier National Park Plein Air event. We dropped of my pieces at the museum. It was still a lovely afternoon. I remembered passing by this very unique and lovely shop on our way to the museum. So we set up across the street to capture the lighting and enjoy the shade of the massive trees.

Lake McDonald- Glacier – 8 X 10

Lake McDonald- Glacier – 8 X 10

This piece was created on the first day of the Hock-A-Day Museums, Glacier National Park Plein Air event. We stayed right at this location overnight. This is what greeted us the first morning. How incredible! This piece sold in the first 15 minutes of the show at Hock-A-Day opening night for the Plein Air event. It really did take your breath away. The mist didn’t last long but wow what a rewarding place to get to paint.
