Paint the Barn Red – COMPLETE!
This unique 2.5-year project is now complete! With 50 barns and 35 artists. The book was launched in November of 2020 via an online Zoom event.
It is now available at all the local Mountain View County Museums and at Legacy Land Trust Office in Olds or through their website – Legacy Land Trust Society
About the Project
The goal of this not-for-profit project is to create a high-quality, hard cover, historical coffee table book with 50 original barn paintings. We hope that capturing each barn’s history will help engage and educate the community on our rural culture and history, as well as promote the arts.
The Committee
- We are made up of artists, farmers, writers, and Carstairs Historical Member and Legacy Land Trust members.

- To explore promotional opportunities such as a traveling art show
Book Contents
- A variety of styles and types of barns were submitted by barn owners or other residents from all areas of Mountain View County
- Selected barn submissions were matched with juried artists via Live on Facebook
- Artists had 12 months to complete one or several paintings of their assigned barn
- Each barn painting is accompanied by its historical story
Publication and Distribution
- 1,000 books were published
- 320 books were given to local schools and libraries, as well as project participants
- The remainder of the books were given to county museums to sell for their own profit
