This painting was inspired during a winter walk on our farm. It was the cast shadow of the old popular tree on the snowbank that first caught my eye. The late afternoons winter sun is quickly setting on this magical winter scene. It’s these small simply yet beautiful moments that feel so worthy of capturing on canvas. It’s also fun to play with the contrasts, like the glistening snow contrasted with the dried grasses and shrivelled up leaves, the contrast of smooth snow with rough old tree and textures of the grass, and the white snow against the dark shadows. It all just felt so still and peaceful, thus the name.
