A Summer Drive-6X12

A Summer Drive-6X12

This was started on location on a wonderful drive in southern Alberta, near Nanton and hwy 22. I pulled over and started to set up, however I quickly realized the wind was way to strong for me to paint there. I took several photos and did the sketch for this on the wooden panel I’d brought. But I completed this piece in my studio. The cool distant mountains, set back from the warm green rolling foothills so captured my attention. I have always loved this curve in the road as I drove this road often then. I liked it so much in fact, I painted this same scene in a large format. This painting is currently juried into a Federation of Canadian Artist show, in Vancouver, BC, called Peace and Trust.

Silver Sunflowers-12X16

Silver Sunflowers-12X16

I so enjoyed painting this scene of sunflowers, setting up in the middle of the field of sunflowers. The buzz of the bees was so audible! It was a field planted for feed for the local birds and deer on a north field on our farm. Our business is called Silver Willow, thus I called these Silver Sunflowers. Painted on location using a palette knife.

Big Hill Springs -9X12

Big Hill Springs -9X12

This is an inspired piece painted at a wonderful little Provincial Park just a half an hour from my home. There are springs bubbling up everywhere. I love the way the water flows from different locations,  I’ve hiked, sketched, painted, picnicked with my grandchildren and photographed here many times over the years. This piece is done in oil and cold wax, using a palette knife done on location en Plein Air. This piece was juried into the Federation of Canadian Artist “Water” show for their online show in early 2020.

Cool Pathway-12X12

This is a familiar scene just north of our home, we walk it often. I created this piece from a photo I took during a winter walk in the snow. New Beginnings-8X10

New Beginnings-8X10

This little painting was created from a photo I took on a walk on a new piece of property we acquired. Both the new land and the new to me medium, of Oil and Cold Wax, generated the title for this piece, ” New Beginnings” It was early spring and the wild dog woods just popped with their amazing red colours against the green and subtle yellow tones in the landscape around them.

  • Artwork size: 8″ X 10″
  • Finishing: Canvas Board / Framed
  • Finished size: 10″X 12″

Morning Glow-12X12

Morning Glow-12X12

This painting was created from a photo I took on a walk on our farm. Early morning light was so incredibly beautiful on the snow drifts. The fall leaves still clung to the boreal forest popular trees. I loved creating this piece in the fun yet challenging medium of Oil and Cold Wax. Using this medium helps me stay light and loose to create that impressionistic style I’m always aiming for.

Kananaskis Spring Thaw-11X14

Inspired from a day trip out to Kananaskis in the early spring when the thaw was starting yet some snow was still on the ground. I loved the red willows along the shorelines and the way the shadows are reflecting in the river.
