This painting was inspired by a plein air I did at this same location at the shores of Columbia Lake. I am so attracted to the diminishing values of the mountains as they go back into the distance. Creating an atmospheric perspective is always a desire of mine in my paintings. This was created mostly using a pallet knife.
This path is on our property here in Alberta and I walk it often. I love to see the changes of the seasons and it’s effect on this lovely view. This particular fall morning when I took this photo I was so in awe of the glowing light flickering across the path in the native popular and aspen trees that grace this pathway. It was simply glorious. It’s these moments that I aspire to re-create and share through my paintings.
I painted this piece along side a lovely little creek up at Panorama Resort in the Purcell Mountains, BC. It was hot and a bit smoky day, yet the afternoon spent painting along this creek was so magical to me. I look on this painting with great fondness for that gift of time.
