Exploring using acrylic and acrylic pens was so fun, while working from a fresh bunch of colourful tulips.
“Hopeful” was created up at Panorama Mountain Resort in the summer of 2021, Covid issues still looming and forest fires causing much smoke in the air, my heart was heavy. Yet on a early morning walk, these lively poppies brightened my day and simply gave me hope.
Two Jack Lake near Banff was the source of this inspiration, enjoyed during a late day kayak trip. Such awe inspiring grandeur captured my heart as I so relished in the experience of floating along on this emerald green and pristine mountain lake.
I created this while in a mountain resort called Panorama British Columbia BC. Surrounded by inspiration I painted a series of 12 X 12 paintings for a up coming show. This was from a moment I captures in the mountains in early spring during the change of seasons. I loved how the warm pink light lit up the snow and wonderful greens and blues reflected in the water of the pond.
I painted this from an image I captured while on a walk west of our home along a frozen creek. I was experiencing some very real grief in my life and the grey skies of that day reflected my mood. Yet, in the middle of my walk alone in the silence, I looked up and saw this beautiful scene. It reminded me that there is beauty even in the midst of our greyest days, we just have to open our eyes to see it. I really loved how this piece turned out. It is now available at the http://www.linehamhousegalleries.ca in Okotoks, Alberta.
Wondering in the early spring amongst the wetlands of the Rocky Mountains I came across this lovely scene. I created it in acrylic using different tools to abstract it and play with the textures. It speaks of the value of water and the role our unique wetlands play in preserving and filtering our waters.
Early in the spring is my favourite time to visit the Rocky Mountains of Alberta. The change of seasons brings out such interesting dynamic shapes and colour. This piece is leaning towards a fascinating abstracted landscape. This acrylic painting captures the late day light and reflections on the pond. The waters green glow shines as it begins to thaw from the long winter slumber.
This painting was inspired during a winter walk on our farm. It was the cast shadow of the old popular tree on the snowbank that first caught my eye. The late afternoons winter sun is quickly setting on this magical winter scene. It’s these small simply yet beautiful moments that feel so worthy of capturing on canvas. It’s also fun to play with the contrasts, like the glistening snow contrasted with the dried grasses and shrivelled up leaves, the contrast of smooth snow with rough old tree and textures of the grass, and the white snow against the dark shadows. It all just felt so still and peaceful, thus the name.
This piece was painting in an acrylic workshop a few years ago. It adorns the wall in my studio and It will be a hard day if it sells and I have to part with it. It’s taken from a video that my husband did on a sunny spring morning along the Carstairs Creek, that happens to flow through our farm. I just loved the cloud reflections in the slow moving prairie creek.
