Inspired from a hiking trip to Glacier National Park in Montana a number of years ago. This is heavily textured piece again using mostly pallet knife. It sparkled with unbelievable aqua, teal and golden green colours. It feels like you can hear the roaring sound of the falls as they tumble down the falls from several directions.
On many an occasion I’ve visited this area just along Hwy 1 near the mountain town of Banff, AB. I’ve walked it, biked it and Kayaked on Lake Vermillion. On one drive home from BC I just had to pull off the highway and take a detour to drive along this little road to capture some of the amazing early fall beauty and incredible splendour of the mountains surround the lake. I was captivated by colour and by the low lying clouds hovering over the mountains here and there. One of those times where you pause and truly take “in the moment”!
Hiking in Larch Valley in the fall remains one of the epic hikes in our Rocky Mountains. This hike heads to Sentinel Pass. I’ve had amazing hikes here but one of my most memorial times was hiking with a group of ladies from Montana and having a grizzly bear encounter! The Larch trees are part of the conifer tree family, but they are an exception, because they loose their needles after they turn bright golden yellow in the fall. They are so incredibly delicate and stunning in their golden yellow colours.
I painted this piece from an image I captured while out for a drive to the Kananaskis Country Parkway in Alberta. This view is from a small bridge that you cross over before you arrive at the village. The red willows are so stunning in the winter season contrasting with the cool snow, the river and the mountains in the background.
